Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Contra (“Contra,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Contra website, applications, emails, and services (the “Service”), and the choices and rights you have.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information — your name and email address, provided through our authentication provider when you create an account.
  • Subscription and billing — your subscription tier, status, and renewal dates. Payments are processed by our payment processor; we do not store full card numbers.
  • Content you create — watchlists, saved theses, portfolio positions you choose to enter or upload, conviction recordings, and assessment responses.
  • Usage and device data — interactions with the Service, log data, approximate location inferred from IP address, browser or device type, and, on mobile, push-notification tokens if you enable notifications.
  • Communications — messages you send us and your email engagement (for example, whether a message was delivered).

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • provide, maintain, personalize, and improve the Service;
  • authenticate you, process subscriptions, and prevent fraud and abuse;
  • send you the emails you have opted into (such as the morning tape and digests) and transactional messages (such as receipts and account notices);
  • respond to your requests and provide support; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to provide personalized investment advice.

3. Service providers and sub-processors

We share information with vendors who process it on our behalf, under contract, to operate the Service. These currently include:

  • authentication and identity management;
  • database and application hosting;
  • payment processing;
  • transactional and marketing email delivery; and
  • market-data, securities-filing, and analytics providers used to generate educational content.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or acquisition.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary to operate the Service, such as keeping you signed in. If we introduce non-essential analytics or advertising technologies in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, request your consent.

5. Email communications

You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time using the link in each message or by contacting us. We will still send essential transactional messages related to your account, security, and billing.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information as described in Section 7, subject to limited retention required by law.

7. Your rights and choices

You can access and update your account information, export your data, and permanently delete your account and associated personal data from your account settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise a right, use your account settings or email hello@contraterminal.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

8. U.S. state and international privacy rights

California (CCPA/CPRA). California residents have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information.

EEA and UK (GDPR). If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information on the legal bases of contract performance, legitimate interests, consent, and legal obligation, and you have the rights described above, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International data transfers

We and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for cross-border transfers.

11. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new “Last updated” date and, for material changes, take additional steps to notify you.
